Who We Are

Earth Conservation Corps is a nonprofit youth development and environmental service organization located on the heavily polluted Anacostia River and in one of our nation's most disadvantaged communities, Southeast Washington, DC. Since 1989 we have been successfully reclaiming two of America's most endangered resources - our youth and our environment. Our service-learning model engages disadvantaged young people ages 17-25 (called Corps members) in our AmeriCorps National Service and Career training programs. A small but highly trained staff provides these Corps members with professional skills and develops their expertise in environmental issues before deploying them as environmental leaders and educators.

Our Mission

Earth Conservation Corps' mission is to empower our youth to reclaim the Anacostia River, their communities, and their lives.

Our Inspiration

Dr. Dian Fossey inspired the Earth Conservation Corps Foundation. Her message of "It's not talking about conservation - it's action. Conservation begins with the boots on your feet" created the drive of a corpsmember, activating the extreme conservation movement for Earth Conservation Corps thirty years ago. We are so grateful for her tireless battle for gorilla conservation. As her legacy continues, we ask that you visit her organization's website, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, and consider donating to the gorillas. Since Dr. Fossey's movement, the once-close-to-extinction species is now rebounding.
